New Delhi, November 28 (UNI) In the wake of Vodafone Idea (VIL) and Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm, led by Mukesh Ambani, announced Sunday a 20% prepaid rate increase. The new unlimited plans, which telecoms operator Reliance Jio says are in line with its commitment to further strengthen a sustainable telecommunications industry, will come into effect on December 1, 2021.
“The plans will deliver the best value in the industry, delivering on Jio’s promise to provide the best quality service at the lowest price in the world, Jio’s customers will continue to be the biggest beneficiaries, according to a company press release.
The current 75 plan will cost 91 as of December 1, an increase of over 20%. The 129 129 plan will cost 155, the 399 plan will cost 479, the 1,299 plan will become 1,559, and the 2,399 plan will cost 2,879. Jio further mentioned that data reloads will now cost 61 for 6 GB (up from 51), 121 for 12 GB (up from 101) and 301 for 50 GB (down from 251).
The three telecommunications majors announced the increases less than a week apart. Bharti Airtel and Vi have increased prepaid tariffs by 20-25%, citing the need for a higher Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) and to deal with the financial stress the industry faces in the face of demand for new technologies and telecommunications spectrum owed to the government. While Airtel increased its rates effective November 26, the Vi increase took effect from November 25.
