Telecom industry warns against installing fake mobile towers ahead of 5G rollout

New Delhi, July 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) On Monday, telecom industry players warned the public against fraud related to the installation of mobile towers on their properties in the country as it prepares for the rollout of 5G.

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and the Digital Infrastructure Providers’ Association (DIPA) have stated that people should exercise caution against certain companies, agencies or individuals who approach them fraudulently, asking them to deposit the money in their personal or corporate accounts in the name of the government tax for the rental of their premises for the installation of mobile towers.

The same people are offering fake “no objection certificates” from the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology for the installation of towers, they informed.

Mobile towers are installed either by telecommunications service providers (TSPs) or by infrastructure providers (IP).

Mobile towers are installed by telecommunications infrastructure providers like

Indus Towers, American Tower Corporation, Summit Digital Infrastructure, Ascend Telecom, Tower Vision.

“IPs take several measures to warn the public about fraud and have devised various modes to collect the potential location information through various channels such as toll-free number, website, email, etc.,” TR said. Dua, CEO, DIPA.

Industry bodies have asked people to verify authenticity by visiting TSP or IP websites before accepting any offers to install towers.

“Mobile towers are essential to ensure uninterrupted connectivity, support various critical services and maintain communication between states. The public is suffering severely due to mobile tower fraud,” said Lt. Gen. Dr. SP Kochhar , CEO, COAI.

This causes a lack of trust and a feeling of insecurity towards the team personnel working in the field to build a robust communication network.

“The telecommunications industry remains committed to providing the highest quality of services to its customers. Therefore, we have worked with DIPA to build the robust infrastructure required,” Kochhar added.

According to reports, over 6.8 lakh mobile towers have been installed across the country and over 15 lakh towers are to be installed by FY24 as the country gears up for 5G.
