Speaking in a virtual briefing, Vaishnaw said: “The telecommunications reforms that we have carried out will have a very good impact on the northeastern states, especially in the Meghalaya … the sector needs to become robust and healthy to be able to reach places like Meghalaya which really need a lot better connectivity … which really need a lot better IT services. ”
The MeghEA initiative is spread across six pillars of governance, human resources, entrepreneurship, primary sector, infrastructure and environment, and aims to make Meghalaya a high-income state by 2030, according to an official statement.
Vaishnaw also launched Phase II of the Visvesvaraya PhD program to promote research in 42 emerging technologies in Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and Information Technology (IT) / Enabled Computer Services (ITES).
The results of the first phase of the program have been encouraging with 63 worldwide patents and the publication of thousands of research articles in reputable international journals.
The minister said now is the time to massively expand the program, with the advent of high-tech industries, especially semiconductor manufacturing and telecommunications manufacturing. India will soon have its own 4G core network and its own 5G core network, he said.
Visvesvaraya’s doctoral program was launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in 2014 with the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) with the aim of increasing the number of doctorates in the ESDM and IT / ITES sectors.
Doctoral places have been allocated to 97 institutions (IIT, NIT, central and state universities) in 25 states and 4 Union territories, according to a separate statement.
“At present, 492 full-time doctoral students and 268 part-time doctoral students are pursuing studies while 422 full-time doctoral students and 43 part-time doctoral students have submitted a thesis or completed a doctorate,” the statement said.
Phase II of the program aims to support 1,000 full-time doctoral students, 150 part-time doctoral students, 50 research grants for young professors and 225 postdoctoral grants.
